Bye Bye X – the FRFG Is Now on Bluesky

The EU Strategy on Intergenerational Fairness – the FRFG’s Assessment

Some time ago, we said #ByeByeElon. Since Elon Musk’s takeover, X (formerly Twitter) has turned into a platform for hate, agitation and disinformation. We stand for democracy, respect and a forward-looking dialogue, and on X, we no longer saw any room for that. We were far from alone, as news organisations, universities, researchers and civil-society groups across Europe and beyond reached the same conclusion and stepped away from the platform.

At the time, we continued our activities on Instagram and LinkedIn. Today, we are taking the next step: the Foundation for the Rights of Future Generations is now on Bluesky.

We wanted to find a better platform for open and fact-based debates, and Bluesky has become the new gathering point for many of the communities we work with, such as academics, journalists, policymakers and organisations committed to evidence and to constructive exchange. It gives users control over their own timelines and the space to engage without being subjected to the algorithmic amplification of outrage that came to define X. And Bluesky is not simply a “left-wing X”, as a study published in 2026 finds that the sources shared there are overwhelmingly news outlets with high credibility.

For an organisation like ours, that is decisive, because we cannot waste our time refuting an endless stream of fake news. This is not about differing opinions, which will (and indeed must) always exist in a democracy. But where the principle of “assume good faith” no longer holds, there is no public space left in which to discuss intergenerational justice on the basis of evidence.

You can now find the FRFG on Bluesky at @future-generations. Follow us there for our research, our positions and the debates that shape the rights of future generations. We look forward to continuing the conversation in a space where democracy, respect and a forward-looking dialogue are once again at home.
