We are back: the fourth episode of the Intergenerational Fairness Day Podcast is available online!
Since the first Intergenerational Fairness Day on 16 November 2023, host and FRFG project manager Lena Winzer has been releasing a new episode of the English FRFG podcast every three months. In this episode, Lena and her guest confront one of the most harrowing threats to our existence. Especially in the current political climate, it is one of the most pressing issues facing humanity today. Episode 4: “Nuclear Weapons: The Ultimate Existential Risk” includes a discussion determining the likelihood of extinction through nuclear war, the fallout, its effects including a nuclear winter, as well as efforts and strategies for prevention and disarmament.
Listen to Lena engage with a whole new aspect of the intergenerational (un)fairness spectrum with her guest Susi Snyder from the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). She is the programme coordinator at ICAN and was also the president of ICAN’s international steering group which pushed for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and in 2017 won the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts. Together they determine whether nuclear war is the ultimate existential risk.
On Monday, the 17th of June, ICAN launched its nuclear spending report which lays out how much nuclear-armed states have spent on their arsenals in the previous year. Keep an eye out on their website and sign up here to receive the nuclear spending report!
All podcast episodes are available online. In the first episode, “Introducing Intergenerational Fairness: A Global Movement,” Lena introduced the topic of intergenerational justice, the action day, and the IFD partner organisations. In the second episode, she invited the FRFG to a discussion on long-term thinking and the work of this NGO. The topics of this episode included intergenerational justice, FRFG’s Walkshops, the Intergenerational Justice Review, and the path to a just world for all generations. The third episode “Young Carers” includes topics such as the effects of caregiving on the physical, emotional, social, and academic well-being of young people, as well as approaches that affect the entire family. See below for more information about the international day of action or the podcast!
